Bye Bye 2009

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

It is astonishing how fast time flies.  2009 is drawing to a close.  Recently, on the tv show Medium, the 16 year old daughter was mad at her parents for picking her up from a sleepover with her friends and 18 year old boys.  The mom explained to her that the time would come when she will be 18 and can have fun at such parties.  But, the time she spent being mad at her parents would just *poof* be gone, and she would not get those precious seconds back.  Thinking about that, I am going to strive to live each moment to the fullest because once it is gone; it is gone.

2009 was full of events, experiences and changes for us.  Here are the highlights:

January 24…Nephew’s 1-Month Dinner, Hacienda Heights

April 16…4th Dating Anniversary at Beacon, Culver City

Casino Royale

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Hubby’s company holiday parteeeeeee was on December 12.  We shuttled into San Francisco to the beautiful and historic Palace Hotel.  The hotel is extremely grand and celebrated its 100th anniversary this year.  It was a great backdrop for the Casino Royale themed extravaganza.

When we arrived to the hotel, we were greeted by the Nutcracker.  The Garden Court had a giant Christmas tree and several different hor d’oeuver stations and bars.  The room to the left had a casino/game theme and more food and drink.  The room to the right had a stage with live music, a photo booth and again more food and drink.

The food was pretty tasty.  One of the highlights was a mashed potato bar with either shrimp or pork toppings.  Other food items included: mini beef dip sandwiches, fries, a baked salmon type thing, different types of pasta, cheese and crackers, avocado sushi, mini desserts, and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.

Hubby and I did not make it to the photo booth, so we took a picture with a Christmas tree in the room with all the games.  It was a fun and memorable night.*

*I say memorable because on the ride back, someone on the bus must have had one too many drinks and threw up.  The stench was horrific; I had to breathe inside my jacket to get “fresh” air.  The crazy thing was the day before, LL told me a story of how her friend threw up on the shuttle at a company event.  I figured it was a rare occasion and not something I would need to worry about.  Boy, was I wrong!

From our family to yours, have a Merry Christmas! :-)

Christmas in the Park

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Last weekend, we headed to downtown San Jose for Christmas in the Park.  S & K joined us as we walked around looking at different displays and hundreds of Christmas trees decorated by organizations, elementary school classes, boy and girl scout troops, etc.  There were food stands, an ice skating rink, picture taking with Santa Claus, a merry-go-round, ferris wheel, and other rides as well.  While we were there, a dance group was performing various routines to holiday songs.  It reminded me of my old dancing days; I keep telling myself to get back into it.

Here are a few of the displays that I snapped pictures of:

Here are some of the Christmas trees:

look!  I am a Christmas tree!

I had a good time and really liked the frog display and taking pictures as a Christmas tree.  Everyone should definitely attend Christmas in the Park at least once, but it would probably be more fun for families with small children.  Oh, I almost forgot to mention; the event is free, and parking is free on weekends before 6pm and $2 flat rate every day after 6pm.

Prep and Landing

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

With only three more days till Christmas…wait…did you just say three!?!?  OMG!  Christmas is just around the corner.  Anyways, back to what I was trying to say, with only three more days till Christmas, I thought I would share a little episode that really put me in the Christmas spirit.

Prep and Landing by Walt Disney Animation Studios was aired on ABC a couple of weeks ago and will air again on Christmas Eve at 8pm.  Taken from their website, here is the gist of it.

The half-hour holiday special reveals the never-before-told tale of an elite unit of Elves known as Prep & Landing. Every Christmas Eve, this high-tech organization ensures that homes around the world are properly prepared for a visit from the Big Guy (aka Santa Claus).

After working tirelessly on Prep & Landing for 227 years, an elf named Wayne (voice of Dave Foley) is upset when he doesn’t receive an expected promotion to be the Director of Naughty List Intelligence. Instead, Magee (voice of Sarah Chalke), the North Pole Christmas Eve Command Center Coordinator (NPCECCC for short), partners Wayne with Lanny (voice of Derek Richardson), an idealistic rookie who has an undying enthusiasm for Christmas.

During their Christmas Eve mission, Wayne and Lanny encounter unexpected challenges that push them to their limits. Will the elves be able to guide Dasher, Dancer, and the rest of the reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh through a raging snowstorm to ensure a Merry Christmas for all?

Enjoy the video!  It is heart-warming, funny, and creative!  What puts you in the Christmas mood?
