Here she is looking through the hole of her log. She used to swim through with no problems, but she has grown so much that her shell no longer fits. The funny thing is that she still tries to swim through until she gives up and goes around. Silly girl.
Here is a photo that shows the full log.
She is quite entertaining to watch! Have a great weekend!
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” Sing it with me now! “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Heroes in a half-shell, Turtle Power!” You can listen to the theme song while reading the rest of the post. You know you want to.
I hope you are not disappointed, but this is not really about Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo. This is about our pet turtles.
While in college, Hubby randomly decided to buy a few red eared slider turtles. His Cousin J also bought a couple. Unfortunately, they each only had one survive, so J gave her turtle to Hubby. When I met Hubby, the two turtles were about six years old and still did not have names. So, we just gave them generic names, Big and Little, due to their size difference.
Big Turtle, aka Baby’s Mom (approximately 11 years old, 5″ wide and 7″ long)
Little Turtle, aka Baby’s Dad (approximately 11 years old, 4″ wide and 6″ long)
One night in May 2008, Big was scratching with her hind legs. We had never seen her do that before and went out to get her some sand. A few days later, she laid a couple of eggs and a few days after that, she laid a few more. She continued this a couple times and in total laid about a dozen or so eggs. We had no idea if the eggs would hatch, but we incubated them anyways. Luckily, in August, Baby was born. We really have to do a better job of naming our pets.
Baby Turtle (approximately 1.5 years old, 2″ wide and 2.5″ long)
Big, Little, and Baby each have their own year-round heated tanks and sunbathing spots. Man, they are spoiled like kings and queens!
